Following a number of what could only be described as “Turbulent Weeks” in the club at committee level, which saw the Club Executive accepting the resignation of Chairperson, Gerard Galvin, we this week start into a new era, with the appointment of, Noel Hurley as Chairperson of the Club for the remainder of 2011. Noel, who was only appointed as Vice-Chairperson, little over a month ago at the Club’s AGM, was nominated at a committee meeting last Thursday night, February 10th, to take up the vacant position.
Gerard Galvin outlined his reasons for resigning in an open letter to all members of the Club, which was posted here on the site last week. Gerard has been at the helm for the past 3 years and will be remembered most as the chairperson who oversaw the most historic year to date in the Club’s 30 years, when in 2009 the club won its first and only “Beara Junior ‘A’ Football Championship” title. In that respect, Noel has some big shoes to fill, but as they say, “with a new face, comes fresh ideas”. We wish Noel the best luck with his new role and look forward to hearing his ideas, for this the 30th year of Glengarriff GAA Club.
